Flight Instructor Revalidation Clinic and Safety Seminar

The Soaring Safety Foundation is conducting a CFIG Revalidation Clinic in Seattle the weekend of February 13th and 14th, 2010.

It's open to everyone - not just instructors. This is your best opportunity to prepare for your next written test (private, commercial or instructor in gliders), prepare for your next oral exam or just brush up on safety.

This clinic consists of 16 hours of concentrated instruction. Hours are 8:00 AM to 5:30 PM on Saturday and 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM on Sunday. Instructors seeking revalidation are required to attend all 16 hours of instruction.

The focus is on the material most important for instructors to teach. Coincidentally, this is the material most important for glider pilots to learn. Many non-instructors attend the course regularly to keep up their soaring knowledge, help them be safer pilots and just enjoy the presentations.

Focus This Year

In the past, a lot of clinic time has been spent on how to make safer landings because the percentage of accidents during landing phase has been high. The clinic focuses on how to solve the biggest problems and it pays off. Recent trends show the percentage of landing accidents on the decline, takeoff accidents on the rise and in-flight accidents about the same. The trend in in-flight accidents is toward mountain flying. I have been tipped off that we can expect more discussions on this year on ways to make takeoffs and mountain flying safer.

Seminar Location

Once again Alaska Airlines has graciously allowed us to use a classroom in their training center at 2651 South 192nd Street, Seattle, WA 98188. This is the same great facility we used two years ago, but a larger and more comfortable room. Park in the lot on the north side of the building only. Use the entrance up the stairs at the north-west corner of building. Linda Chism will be at door to let people in and distribute parking passes on the first day. No food is allowed in classroom. There will be the usual coffee, tea and great snacks.

How To Register

Cost is $150 per person. Space is limited and we can’t guarantee any spots will be open the day of the clinic. Reservations (i.e. checks) are required by Wednesday February 10, 2010 so that we can provide a list of attendees to Alaska Airlines’ security.

Make checks payable to the Soaring Safety Foundation and mail to:
