AIRCRAFT

  • Apis - Bruce had it painted at Craig Funston’s place.  Roy Parzyk did the annual. The assembly manual is finished and on line.
  • General - Leo is making new flight control locks for all the gliders. The red round ones were taken out of service and are hidden in hangar #5.
  • Blanik L-13: 14J - Investigating a new radio installation. Chris Murray is handling this. Jim from Cannon Avionics came over today (1/29/2010) The cost of the installation is $3700 and the guy quoted a radio that would not fit.  It does not inspire confidence.  The emergency release cable on the canopy was partially disengaged.  The entire canopy was hanging on by just the front hinge.  Hans and Mike Delaney repaired it on the field.  Canopy cover needs repair.  Leo is almost finished with a stick lock similar to what we use on the L-23s.
  • Blanik L-23s - (Need an assembly manual)
  • Blanik L-23: 264 - OK and on the line ready to fly.  Need for an electric vario is unresolved.  A retaining pin in the front canopy came out of place.  It was fixed on the field by Michael Clarke and Steve Baker.  Power connector Needs to be replaced.  Need to renew airspeed indicator markings.
  • Blanik L-23: 265 - OK and on the line ready to fly.  Need for an electric vario is unresolved.  Power connector was replaced by Hans.  Need to renew airspeed indicator markings
  • Blanik L-33: 355 - OK and on the line and ready to fly.  Vario has no compensation due to the pneumatic tube routing.  The vent control cable is broken or dislodged. I will get these fixed during the annual this March.  I gave up the parking space in November and will advise the airport that the glider is back on the line.  We need another copy of the assembly manual in the trailer.
  • Blanik L-33: 379 - OK.  It is on the flight line and ready to fly.  The winter was not kind to the paint job on this ship.  The saddle on the right wing and the aft fuselage somehow allowed for paint blisters full of water to form.  The blisters on the wing were on the leading edge so I popped them and smoothed them out on with my fingers.
  • Schweizer 1-34 - OK and on the line ready to fly.  I have had some problems with the electric vario.  Barometric unit works fine. Assembly manual is finished and is in the club house as well as on line.  I will place it on the trailer after Leo mounts a box on it
  • Astir - OK.  In the trailer and ready to fly.  May need new seat belts.

Trailers

General - New state tabs are on the five ex-BESC trailers.

  • L-23 - OK.
  • L-13 - Title missing. Tabs up on 31 Apr.
  • 1-34 - OK. Leo is fabricating a box to hold tools and paperwork.
  • Apis - Temporary repair made to the vent. Hans will repair the vent, rear door, etc.
  • Astir - OK
  • 355 - Floor warped but useable.
  • 379 - OK
  • Fuel Trailer - Instructed Steve to leave trailer at his house covered in a tarp.

Miscellaneous

We have heard from our friends in the FAA about N707NL, a BESC ship lost in 1998 and 17Z. I have sent them a raft of papers showing a pedigree.  I duplicated the package I sent in for the Cub.

Pierre has agreed to be Tow Plane Manager.  He will need Keith McLean’s help with 30Y, but he can handle the Cub and 17Z.

Towplanes:  Report from Pierre.

30Y had the annual inspection in January and 17Z had the annual inspection done in February. 74D is scheduled for annual inspection before the end of March.
