Linda Chism realized she knew little about the namesake of the Cloyd Artman award, presented annually by the Seattle Glider for "Pioneering or Exceptional Effort". Luckily for us, she pursued this curiosity for the last three years and uncovered and documented the history of Cloyd and his sister Audrey. She presented the story of these local flying pioneers at the 2011 Soaring Expo at the Museum of Flight, and I have asked her to present it to the Evergreen club. She promised to do so later in the year; in the meantime, here is a handout from the presentation, a self-guided driving tour of the locations Cloyd and Audrey Artman frequented in their eventful flying careers. Perhaps in your travels this year you will visit some of these early soaring sites.
