September 2011 Equipment Report
The status of our equipment since our last board meeting is as follows:
(Items in Bold is new activity)
Gliders:
General:
Gary and I are working on a way to preserve and protect glider documentation and for the prompt entry of maintenance action into the various log books.
14J: The ship is grounded by the FAA until further notice. The ship is on the trailer with a tarp over it. We can modify the wings to the L13A configuration, but there is no FAA action yet to remove the grounding if this work is undertaken. Received new registration.
L-23s: (Need an assembly manual) – I will cover the holes left by broken canopy vents with aluminum tape.
264: The ship is on the line in AWO and ready to fly. The new registration expiration is 30 Nov 13.
265: The ship is on the line in AWO and ready to fly. The wheel brake is not working from the front seat. I asked Mike Talley to take a look at it. I suspect that the cable to lever connection failed. The occurred once before when we got the ship back from painting. The new registration expiration is 30 Nov 13..
355: The ship is on the line in AWO and ready to fly. The compass is inop. Side of the fuselage is gouged from the trailer dolly. The new registration is in the glider. Expiration is 30 Nov 13.
379: The ship is on the line in AWO and ready to fly. Paint is peeling again. We need another wing tie down system. The new registration is in the glider. Expiration is 30 Nov 13.
DG 300: The ship is purchased and grounded. The wing and rudder work are finished. The fuselage is in the hangar and requires seat belts and placards. The work is finished. We need to assemble it, check the aileron alignment, install the rudder stops, and install a landing gear handle kit that we have on hand.
ASTIR: The ship is in AWO and ready to fly. Travis fixed the landing gear door hinge. The ship is newly registered. Expiration is 30 Nov 13. We are in contact with Robert Mudd to see if he will fix the ship here. The cost to a ship in Spokane was $3200 plus $1500 to ship. It required two trips to NM and one month down time. I wish to make this an agenda item for this board meeting.
Twin Astir: The ship had another gear collapse which destroyed the gear door the actuator rod among other things. Parts are on order and until they arrive, the ship is flyable with the gear down. It is permanently locked and placarded. I have asked other owners about this ship and one other operator flies the ship with the gear permanently extended. Robert Mudd in Albuquerque appears to be the expert on this problem. I have passed this word to Gary and Paul. Gary is heading up the repair. He is attempting to install a gear down and locked indictor.
APIS: The ship is sold to Jerry Booker of Princeville, IL. Delivery was made on 10 Sep by Gary and me. The glider arrived safely in Illinois on 11 Sep. The check was sent to Brain’s business address.
Trailers:
L-23 – Fred Weir is repairing the deteriorated wooden wing stands.
L-13 – OK. We received the title.
1-34 – OK. .
APIS –We received the title and it is sold. See Apis, above.
ASTIR – This trailer has no brakes. Tow vehicle must weight at least 3000 #. I placed a notice on the trailer.
355 – The dolly is finished and was used with 379 going to and from Ephrata.
379 – Floor warped but useable.
Fuel Trailer – I repaired the power leads when in Darrington.
Parachutes:
All chutes are packed. Next servicing by 30 Sep 11.
Carts:
The electric cart needs a tire. Received the front brake retro fit kit. Paul Adriance is installing it.
The gas cart got a new flasher.
Facilities:
The hangars need electrical work. The work will be done through the condo association and a time of their choosing. Chris Murray is our liaison with the condo committee. He will recommend how we should proceed. He also notified me that the hangar titles need to be changed. I will notify Mason that he has a new hobby.
Towplanes:
17Z is ready to fly. The new registration is in the airplane. Expiration is 30 Nov 13.
30Y is ready to fly. Received the new registration.
74D is grounded again. The test flight revealed an oil leak. Paul has delivered the airplane to the vendor that rebuilt the engine. Expect the ship to return to service by the end of the month.
