September 2010 Equipment Report

October 2011 Equipment Report

The status of our equipment since our last board meeting is as follows:

(Items in Bold is new activity)

Gliders:

General:

Gary and I are working on a way to preserve and protect glider documentation and for the prompt entry of maintenance action into the various log books.

14J:  The ship is grounded by the FAA until further notice.  The ship is on the trailer with a tarp over it.  We can modify the wings to the L13A configuration, but there is no FAA action yet to remove the grounding if this work is undertaken.

L-23s: (Need an assembly manual) – Both ships have faulty mics or a wiring problem in the front seat.  Mike Talley is looking at it as the weather permits.

264: The ship is on the line in AWO and ready to fly.

265:  The ship is on the line in AWO and ready to fly.  The wheel brake was badly out of adjustment and it is now fixed.

L-33s

355:  The ship is on the line in AWO and ready to fly.  The compass is inop.  The new registration is in the glider.

379: The ship is on the line in AWO and ready to fly.  Paint is peeling again.  We need another wing tie down system.  The new registration is in the glider.

DG 300:  The ship is purchased and grounded.  The status of the ship is as follows: following most of which should be done by mid month:

            1) The flight recorder will not boot.  Gary is investigating and it will be investigating the repair.  It could be costly but it is not flight critical.

            2) A weight and balance is needed.

            3) Fixed the elevator to stick linkage.  The wrong length bolt was found that acted as a premature stop.  The bolt was replaced.

            4) Removed the dump valve for the tail ballast tank and placarded the ship accordingly.  The wing tank valves are intact.  As a club policy we won’t be using any water ballast in the ship.

            5) All placards were added.

            6) A new pocket to hold paper work and incidentals in the cockpit was fabricated and installed by Travis Brown.

            7) Aileron rigging must be checked.

This ship may be ready by 16 Oct 11.

ASTIR: The ship is in AWO and ready to fly.   The ship is now for sale.  As of the date of this writing, we received only one serious inquiry.

Twin Astir:  The ship had another gear collapse which destroyed the gear door the actuator rod among other things.  All parts needed for the repair have arrived.  Gary will attempt to rebuild the gear and lock down indicator after the flying season for the ship ends.  Gary is also working the formal transfer of the ship to the club.

APIS:  The ship is sold to Jerry Booker of Princeville, IL.  Delivery was made on 10 Sep by Gary and me.  The glider arrived safely in Illinois on 11 Sep.  The check was sent to Brain’s business address.

Trailers:

L-23 – Fred Weir repaired the deteriorated wooden wing stands.

L-13 – OK.

ASTIR – This trailer has no brakes.  Tow vehicle must weight at least 3000 #.  I placed a notice on the trailer.

355 – The dolly is finished and was used with 379 going to and from Ephrata.

379 – Floor warped but useable.

Fuel Trailer – OK

Parachutes:

Parachutes 2, 4 and 5 are repacked due 21 Mar 12.  3, 6 and 7 are in storage.  1 has been sold.  We got an offer for a second one, but the board decided that only one would be sold at this time.

Carts:

Received the front brake retro fit kit.  Tires and helper springs were just purchased.  Paul Adriance is installing all of it.

The gas cart is the only serviceable cart at the moment.

Facilities:

The hangars need electrical work.  The work will be done through the condo association and a time of their choosing.  Chris Murray is our liaison with the condo committee.  He will recommend how we should proceed.  He also notified me that the hangar titles need to be changed.  I will notify Mason that he has a new hobby.

Towplanes:

17Z is ready to fly.  The new registration is in the airplane.

30Y is ready to fly.  Received the new registration.

74D is grounded again.  The test flight revealed an oil leak.  Paul has delivered the airplane to the vendor that rebuilt the engine.  No one worked on the Cub while Paul was on a two week vacation.  The oil leak was not from the engine split case, but from a bolt hole that needs a new helicoil.  The engine may need to be torn down again.  I do not have a date when the ship will be back in service.
