October 23, 1997 meeting

Evergreen Soaring, Inc.

Board of Directors

The meeting was called to order at 7:25 PM in President Chris Chantrill’s home.  Present were Mike Bailey, Mike Delaney, Doug Kyllo, John Daly, Gary Thayer and Jerry Painter.

Treasurer Mike Delaney presented the latest balance sheet and profit and loss statement.  We have $23,226.46 in checking and savings, $9780.37 of which is our self-insurance fund.  Accounts receivable stand at $2380.85.  For the year we have a negative net income of -$2389.63 from a gross income of $33170.68.  High cost items, as always, are maintenance related, $8467.21 for gliders and $6538.97 for the Pawnee (with more to come when the wing cluster AD fix is installed in December).

Gary Thayer has returned from a trip to Merrie Old England, but had no flying stories.  Saw ‘em, didn’t fly ‘em.  He is preparing to offer an e-mail edition of Glidepath, perhaps in conjunction with the web page being developed by Chris Becker and Joe Robison.

John Daly reviewed the nominee slate for next month’s elections.  President-elect: none; Treasurer: none; Secretary: Jerry Painter; Operations Director: Craig Kramer.  Come on, folks, can it be nobody wants to be President-elect (an easy job if ever there was one) or Treasurer (maybe not quite so easy, but think of all that money you’ll get to handle)?  Do we have to keep recycling the usual faces?  Don’t be timid, join the fun!

Appointed positions are faring better:  Gary Thayer has volunteered to continue as Glidepath editor (kudos!), Harold Broomell as Bookkeeper (likewise), Brooks Johnson will expand his role to include maintenance of the gliders to his superbly done Pawnee duties and Howard Glover has offered to move in as Scheduler (welcome to the party!).  Open is Chief CFIG (thanks, Keith).  Volunteers are, as always, enthusiastically welcomed.

Chris Chantrill reviewed the menu for the Annual Awards Banquet and Good Time to be Had by All Meeting.  For $30 we can choose between salmon and prime rib dinners, with salad, desert and non-alcoholic refreshment.  There will be the usual fun with awards, slide show and short acceptance speeches by new officers.

Daly deals: seems there is an unused, nice, L-13 trailer available at the Shelton airport.  It can be had for about $750.  An inspection party is being formed.  Jim Simmons wants to join the Evergreen fun as a special member towpilot (is it coincidence that we have so many BESA members wanting to fly our Pawnee?).  There will be no Soaring Expo at the Museum of Flight this year, but maybe a rides Expo later in the year.  We can still meet in the Aeroclub Room at no cost.  Ephrata will open for gliders on 4/18 and the Region 8 contest dates are 6/27 (practice day) through 7/3.  It looks like there is a serious chance Ephrata will host the next World Championships.  Steve Northcraft and Ron Ferguson are the prime movers.  SGC made 557 tows, ES 729, year-to- date.  SGC elections are coming up and nominees from Evergreen are encouraged.

The meeting adjourned at 9:05 PM.

Respectfully submitted,

Jerry Painter, Secretary
