Evergreen Soaring, Inc.
Board of Directors Meeting
May 15, 1997
The meeting was called to order by President Chris Chantrill at 7:30PM at his home in Seattle. Present were John Daly, Mike Delaney, Mike Bailey, Doug Kyllo, Craig Kramer, John Gilbert, Jerry Painter and Cruz Reyes.
Jerry Painter reported that the electricity in the clubhouse has been turned back on.
Mike Bailey said he was working on getting a compass, radio and audio vario installed in a new panel for the Russia AS-4. Tom Udd makes new aluminum panels for $150. The vario in the 1-36 is inop, apparently because of no battery power. Either the battery or the charger is apparently to blame. John Gilbert (charger manufacturer) will fix it.
Doug Kyllo said Keith Turner will schedule CFIG’s for Encampment. Since several towpilots would be going over, Doug expects no problems scheduling them. Jerry Painter agreed to fly the Pawnee over to EPH for encampment. Since the Region 8 contest will begin the week after encampment and the Arlington EAA Fly-In will be the week after that, it was agreed that the Pawnee should stay in EPH until mid-July. That means any flying at AWO will have to be towed by BESA or Alpha. The BESA Pawnee should be flying soon, but their Super Cub will be out of service until damages can be repaired. Stand by for late breaking news. If Norm Ellison’s planned 2-place regatta materializes, John Gilbert volunteered to fly a club 2-seater/give x-c instruction to anyone that wants to ride along.
Mike Delaney reminded everyone that trailer towing reimbursements are for FUEL ONLY. Keep your receipts. The license tabs for the Lark trailer expired last fall. Since the registration (tab renewal form) is attached to the trailer, it will have to be checked in EPH. He suggested we sell the brown L-13 trailer. All agreed.
President Chris Chantrill reviewed the discussion at Tuesday’s General Meeting regarding currency documentation for members wishing to fly club ships. The FOO is charged with ensuring that only qualified, current members fly club aircraft, so people should get in the habit of bringing whatever documents are required to show that they’re qualified. CFIG’s and towpilots should be certified (i.e., have their green cards signed of) by the Chief Towpilot (Brooks Johnson, not present at the meeting) and Chief CFIG (Keith Turner, also not present), respectively. Especially given our insurance situation, it is critical that we be sure no one flies who isn’t qualified. It was agreed that the club’s lease for use of Jerry Painter’s 2-33 should be terminated, since no one has flown it for some months.
We have been approached to give some Boy Scouts an introduction to Soaring, Presumably, they are Scouts working on their Aviation Merit Badges. A brief ground orientation followed by a flight is suggested. Jerry Painter offered to donate flight time in his 2-33, but it was decided that Scouts should also be given the “opportunity” to help with club operations, wash ships etc. and pay for their tows. If the Scoutmaster has deserving special financial hardship cases, we would be favorably disposed to assist in exchange for a little sweat.
Cruz Reyes reported on his incident in SGC’s Super Cub 75B a few weeks back at Wenatchee.
John Gilbert will talk to Pat Dunston about her shed.
Mike Delaney will be in England between May 22 and June 2. Then off to Australia from August 8 to September 9. Tough duty, Mike.
Respectfully submitted,
Jerry Painter, Secretary
