April 17, 1997 Meeting

Evergreen Soaring Board of Directors

The meeting was called to order at 7:30PM by President Chris Chantrill at his home in Seattle.  Also present were Keith Turner, Mike Bailey, Doug Kyllo, Gary Thayer, John Daly, Craig Kramer and Jerry Painter.

President Chantrill asked for reports of the officers:

Gary Thayer:  Articles for the April issue of Glidepath need to be to him by March 28.

Chris Chantrill:  The program for the April General Meeting will be FOO training and a slide show on glider contest by Len Trautman.  New member applications have been received for Andy Lemke and Ryan McElwain.  Both were unanimously approved for induction.

Craig Kramer:  Ephrata is now open.  The Lark and 1-36 have been moved there from Wenatchee, but the Lark trailer is still at Wenatchee, the ship having been aero-towed to EPH.

John Daly:  SCG will not be hosting a Region 8 contest this year.  However, Norm Ellison is trying to generate interest in a two-place regatta, tentatively scheduled for for July4 or thereabouts.  John reminded the Board that the Pawnee gear/wing cluster fitting AD will be again upon this coming December.  We will have to decide whether to content ourselves with another inspection or opt for a permanent fix.  Chief Towpilot Brooks Johnson should investigate STC’s and costs.

Keith Turner:  The private pilot training syllabus is just about ready for release.  He is also going to have copies of aircraft pilot manuals in every glider and copies available in the “Bookstore” in the clubhouse.  John Daly will take on the copying chores..The Russia neds placards, a compass, audio vario, a radio and warnings about the ballistic chute.  Keith has a headset for the ship.  All Evergreen pilots need to always use the radios to monitor other traffic and make position reports approaching and while maneuvering to land in airport traffic patterns.  We have had near misses that could have been avoided if radios had been used.  The “Green Cart” base station radio should also always be used to monitor airport traffic and glider operations.  Keith has asked Rene Claringbould for a written report on his recent tow and landing incidents in the Russia.  The Safety Board Review meeting should then follow quickly, while memories are still fresh.  Keith also proposes to conduct a training course to accomodate several pending CFIG applicants.

Mike Delaney circulated the latest Profit and Loss, Accounts Receivable and Balance Sheet statements for review.

The meeting was adjourned at 10:10PM.

Respectfully submitted,

Jerry Painter, Secreatary
